Salamanda Tandem Celebrating 30 years of Collaboration
Over 30 years, the Salamanda Tandem community has been made up of hundreds of people: artists, education, health and social care, wellbeing practitioners, funders, commissioners, organisations, family members, volunteers and partners. People have given their life and soul to Salamanda Tandem, generating a life force of fascinating, challenging and inspiring art projects, born out of collaboration, a passion for creative innovation, social engagement, and a consistent pursuit of attitudinal change in disabling attitudes towards people. We do it via the medium of ART: Music, Dance, Light, Writing, Film, Poetry, Sculpture, Photography, Painting, Costume, Architecture, Installation, Voice, Sensory Performance and we use technology to facilitate access.
To achieve our program of performances, exhibitions, Recently, we calculated that we had received over 1 million pounds over a 30 -year period from Arts Council England, Arts Council East Midlands and Arts Council Grants For The Arts. We are incredibly grateful for this support and faith in us, without which we could not have done our work.

30 Years On
Salamanda Tandem was initially formed on February 14th 1989 as a partnership with Peter Byworth who as a recent dance graduate of the 1 year community dance course at Laban was very inspired on meeting Isabel and Lewis. Peter left in 1992, and the artist team broadened out, as the concept of associate artist and teams of collaborators. were born. In the same year Eye Contact was founded by co-directors: Isabel Jones and Lewis Jones, Salamanda Tandem became a LTD company in 1997 and a charity in 1999. Lewis work continued with Salamanda Tandem until his death 20 years later, on September 3rd 2012. His legacy is embedded across every fibre of our company
